GE came to us in 1996 with a design to create a disposable headset for guided surgery. Their original concept was a flat device that would fold to fit the head. Unfortunately it was costly and inefficient to manufacture, and did not meet performance objectives.

NT Medical’s team redesigned the unit with a single molding for the main sub-assembly; ear pieces and location pellets were then placed. This new design utilized the cost advantages of injection molding, and yielded a device with much higher accuracy.
Engineering:
            Develop complex three-dimensional device

Challenge:
            Client’s folded-fabrication was costly
            and not “manufacture friendly”

Solution:
            Redesigned for cost-effective, injection
            molding

Technology:
            CAD/CAM, Assembly, Molding,
            Validation, Packaging

Result:
            Successful cost-effective, product,
            supplied “ship to stock”.
